Glenmark Nutrition Awards 2023

The Glenmark Nutrition Awards was instituted during the pandemic in 2021, in partnership with World Food Programme (WFP) (Nobel Laureate 2020) to recognize non-profit organizations (NGOs) and other organizations (social enterprises, collectives, community groups, individuals, etc.) who have undertaken exceptional efforts through their health initiatives or programs to reduce the impact of malnutrition in society due to COVID and its effects. The Awards have continued with the objective to amplify and support NGOs who have worked on improving nutrition among women, adolescent girls and children, from vulnerable groups and communities in rural and urban areas. Criteria for selection will be based on Innovation, Impact, Inspiration and Collaboration for implementation and adoption. The winning organizations will be announced at the RISE World Summit 2023 (www.risesummit.in) in February 2023 at a physical Grand Finale graced by eminent personalities and special guests. Outreach Partners

Glenmark Foundation has been focused on malnutrition as a core issue with special attention to children in the age group of 0 to 6 years, pregnant and lactating women and more. It has adopted a 360-degree approach to tackling malnutrition through various programs and interventions.

As part of taking a step in this direction, Glenmark Nutrition Awards was organized for the first time in 2020. Conceived as a platform to recognize non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and individuals who undertook exceptional efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, the focus of the Nutrition Awards continues and now revolves around Diet diversity and Innovation in the second year. The objective was to support the NGOs who have worked on the lines of innovation, impact, inspiration and collaboration in improving the dietary diversity among women and children, adolescent girls and vulnerable groups from the communities, using innovative strategies for implementation and adoption. Over the two years the program has seen applications from across the country.

 The Glenmark Nutrition Awards are promoted year-round as part of the RISE Summit outreach reaching over a million people across the global. The selection process during the Summit and the announcement of the Awardees at the culmination, has been the highlight of the RISE program which has been graced by global thought leaders and decision makers.

We received a total number of 492 entries from 23 states and 8 Union Territories, from 3 categories namely Urban NGOs, Rural NGOs and Open ( included Corporate Foundations, individuals, CBOs )

Using a robust anonymous selection process, with 3 rounds of selection, based on the criteria of innovation, impact and inspiration, 9 finalists were shortlisted.

The selection committee consisted of

  1. Dr. Ratna Thar (Chairperson) – Research Director, College of Home Science, Nirmala Niketan, Mumbai, Hon. Police Nutritionist for Maharashtra Police, Lead Nutritionist and Academic Advisor
  2. Ms. Aarti Jain – Founder, Nutritionist & Researcher at PŌṢHAṆ – Integrated Nutrition Solutions. Visiting Lecturer for Dept. of Foods, Nutrition & Dietetics at College of Home Science, Nirmala Niketan, Mumbai
  3. Dr. Neha Joshi – Professional nutrition data analyst and involved in project designing, advising and consulting with agencies from public health and nutrition
  4. Mrs. Sheetal Joshi – M.sc (Foods, Nutrition and Dietetics), Assistant Professor, College of Home Science, Nirmala Niketan, Mumbai

The grand finale was held as part of The RISE World Summit 2023 on 2nd February 2023 at MET institute of Management, Mumbai. The 9 finalists presented their projects before the Grand Jury.

The jury consisted of

  1. Prof. Satish Agnihotri (Chairperson) – Head, Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (CTARA), IIT Bombay
  2. Dr. Anjali Kanitkar – Associate Professor at College of Social Work, Nirmala Niketan, Mumbai, Member Board of Trustee, AROEHAN
  3. Dr. Lidwin Dias – Principal, College of Social Work, Nirmala Niketan School of Social Work, Mumbai

The event was graced by Ms. Cheryl Ann Pinto – VP Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, Ms. Tincy George- General Manager CSR, Glenmark Foundation, Mr. Ratnesh Jha, Executive Director, UNGC- India, the selection committee, grand jury and Ms. Karon Shaiva – Chief Impact Officer & MD, Idobro Impact Solutions.

Cuddles Foundation, Healing Fields Foundation, and Nutrition Rehabilitation Research and Training Centre were the winners in the urban, rural and open category respectively who each received a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000/-

Each of the finalist received a gift along with a certificate of recognition for making it to the final round of the competition

A token of appreciation was presented to the members of the Selection Committee and Grand Jury Panel by the Glenmark team

Launch of the Recipe Book

“Meri Poushtik Rasoi” a recipe booklet comprising 54 nutritious recipes from across the country, was also unveiled at the event, by the Chief Guest Ratnesh, Executive Director – UN Global Compact Network India, and Cheryl Pinto, Executive Director – Corporate Services, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. The recipe book is a collection of local, traditional, and nutritious recipes selected as the winners of the Meri Poushtik Rasoi cooking contest, which was conducted yearly from 2018 to 2022 as another flagship event by Glenmark Foundation to address the issue of malnutrition in an innovative manner.
